Short films

Over the course of Fall 2018 (my last college semester) I was enrolled in a Video production class in which we created two different short films, as well as multiple labs in which we were to create 1-2 minute films. The short films were created over the span of roughly 6 weeks each, in teams of 4-6 people. During both major projects and all labs I was responsible for editing, sound, post production, as well as various other tasks.

Hot or Not

Hot or Not was the second short film we created. My role was mainly post production (editing, color correction, music, sound design, etc) but also was present for filming and being a helping hand.

More information

There are problems with audio is some scenes due to failures with audio hardware we were given.

Other difficulties came with one of our actors not able to attend all filming days, and due to this, we had to change the story around a little bit. Originally, Patty was supposed to be introduced visually in the beginning of the film, but due the actress being unable to attend any filming day after the first, we were not able to shoot that scene with usable audio.

Editing Specifications

Problems with windows

Manually drawing key-frames around windows. The Adobe After Effects wasn’t tracking windows very well, so for certain scenes I was manually keyframing clipping masks on the windows to bring down exposure when the content on the other side of the window is important. If time allowed, I would have loved to have done this for all windows in all scenes, but due to the fact the last filming day was about a week before the project was due I wasn’t able to do that.

Magazine Transition

Another important part of my post production process was the transition between the two magazines shots. Despite the lighting in the shots being completely different, I had to key frame color correction so that the color correction fades in to match the color of the next scene’s magazine close up. Along with the differences in lighting, the bend of the magazine was different in the two scenes as well. Because of this I had to transform the video in the second scene and then undo those transformations as the camera pulls away from the close up of the magazine.
